Motorola officially introduced their new tablet, Xoom successor in 2 variants: Motorola Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition. The Next generation of Motorola Xoom brings some changes. Both appear to favor a sleek, lightweight body and forms an interesting concept.
Motorola Xoom 2
This tablet brings 1280x800px resolution, 10.1-inch screen with Corning Gorilla Glass for extra protection. Xoom 2 using Android 3.2 Honeycomb backed 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of memory built-in storage capacity.
Motorola has really tried hard to improve Xoom 2 and as a result it weighs 131 grams less than the first generation of Xoom and 4mm thinner that is only 8.8mm. The tablet comes with a special coating to prevent incidental sparks that could damage the device. The tablet is also equipped by a stylus too.
In terms of camera, Motorola is still using 5MP camera same with the first generation, even Xoom 2 only has a single LED flash, not dual. Front camera, also derived from 2MP to 1.3MP.
Meanwhile, the battery seems still the same, which promises up to one month standby time and time usage up to 10 hours more for browsing.
Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition
Xoom 2 Media Edition comes with a 8.2-inch model, with a display resolution of 1280×800 pixels which is also supported by Corning Gorilla Glass technology. This Media tablet edition is powered by a dual-core processor 1.2 GHz, 1GB RAM and 16GB storage. 5MP camera mounted at the rear. With weighs 386 grams, and a thickness of no more than 9mm. As a consequence of smaller body size, the dimension of any follow-up battery is smaller. The battery is claimed to accommodate up to 6 hours of browsing time. And, can listen to music up to 3-4 days.
Although the two tablets comes with Honeycomb, but Motorola has confirmed that both variants Xoom 2 will soon get an update ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) within 6 weeks after they receive the source code from Google. Unfortunately, exactly when they can get the source code of ICS is still unknown.
Both of these tablets for a while the new note will be present in the UK and Ireland in mid-November, UK retailer Clove has given with a tag of £ 390.00 for Xoom 2 and £ 358.80 for Xoom 2 Media Edition, both prices include VAT at 20%.
